Transition

year 6 to year 7

During the summer term, the SENCO/ SENSOs liaise with Primary feeder schools to identify and plan support for children with known SEN/disability needs.

Wherever possible, the SENCO will attend Year 6 annual reviews of pupils with EHCPs. The school hosts transition evenings which will be hosted by key members of SEN staff. We also invite Year 6 students to transition taster days during the summer term; this gives them a chance to experience a typical day at Baysgarth School. Bespoke and personalised transition programmes can be planned and arranged by the SENCO/ SENSO for students who may require a longer transition period.

KS4-KS5 and beyond

In Year 11, we have a dedicated SENSO and Senior LSA responsible for making links and forging relationships with colleges and apprenticeship providers. We will support your child with the application process, visiting colleges and meeting the right people, which includes liasing with Inclusion teams/ SENCOs and SENSOs. Within this, we maintain high levels of communication with parents/ carers, with a focus on a collaborative transition approach.

As part of this process, we encourage attendance at Open Evenings/ Days and offer additional support through meetings with our Employability Mentor and the Senior LSA for Y11 transition. We can also support with personalised transition packages to a range of post 16 providers throughout the region such as John Leggott College, North Lindsey College, Grimsby Institute, Franklin College, Bishop Burton College and Wyke College.

Our support package further extends to after your child has started college, when our Senior LSA will be in contact, checking in on how your child has settled into college life.

Working together, our aim is to ensure your child's college transition can be a successful step towards adulthood.
